Help us end child food poverty

Around 1.3 million children in the UK rely on free school meals, a provision which was extended by the government for eligible children during the Easter holidays earlier this year. For the October half-term, the government refused to extend this provision, leaving many young people at the risk of going hungry.

We believe this is wholly unfair to families who are struggling, especially amidst a pandemic. We have enough resources within our community to ensure that no child goes hungry as a result of cruel government decisions. We will use 100% of the donations we receive to provide free nutritionally balanced lunches to any families who are able to collect the meals from Communitea Cafe.

How you can help:

Donate using the blue donation button below. The donation is set to £5, which will pay towards the meals we provide to children this half term. Our payment system currently doesn’t allow custom donation amounts!, however if you’d like to donate more, please get in touch with us via email: hello@yallahub.co.uk. Any surplus donations we receive will still be used to pay forward meals beyond this half-term to anyone affected by food insecurity.

– If you have a neighbour or know of someone who is affected by food inequality and could use a hot meal, collect a meal on their behalf and deliver it to them using COVID-19 safety precautions.

– Coming together and sharing is imperative to meet the immediate need for families this half-term, but this should not be the end of our fight to reduce food poverty in this country. You can sign this petition to call on the government to act on ending child food poverty: https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/554276
